Who can buy units
Organisations looking to compensate for unavoidable emissions
Any organisation which would like to compensate for their unavoidable emissions right away can buy Woodland Carbon Units.
Organisations planning to compensate for emissions in future years on their journey to net zero can buy Pending Issuance Units.
Individuals looking to compensate for unavoidable emissions
Individuals can buy Woodland Carbon Units from a project developer, trader or retail aggregator to compensate for their unavoidable UK emissions.
As an individual, you can’t buy Pending Issuance Units or hold an account on the UK Land Carbon Registry. The project developer, trader or retail aggregator you buy from can tag units with your name in the registry.

- If you are not authorised, you can apply for a retail aggregator account. The number of units you can hold at any one time and the length of time you can hold them for will be limited.
